Transform your bland & boring bookcases and wall shelves into stunning displays. Many of these rules can and have already been applied to all different types of Interior Styling. Note the repetition from my past posts and master the “Art of Interior Styling” in all different areas. Follow these quick & easy steps for a beautiful showcase…
Not sure what to showcase on your shelves? First, consider what you love. Your interests and hobbies should come through in your accessory choices.
Go BIG and BOLD. Several tiny tchotchkes on a shelf will only collect dust and look like jumbled clutter. Instead, choose bigger, bolder accessories that will stand out.
Play with Asymmetrical and Symmetrical Balance. Decide which style you prefer and run with it. Regardless, your arrangements should be done in odd numbers 3, 5 or 7.
Stack books. Boost your items stature by using your books as risers. You want to vary the heights of your accessories within your shelf composition and help draw attention to a certain piece.
Create layers. In addition to height, consider depth when decorating shelves. Stand up trays, pretty plates and pictures to use as a backdrop for your arrangement, then work your way out from there. After you’ve placed larger/taller items in the back as your anchor you can layer smaller/shorter objects in front.
Vary book displays. Display some of your books horizontal and some of them vertical. Group books by subject–and by size.
Think you have what it takes to Style your Bookcases & Shelves like a Designer? GO FOR IT!
