It feels like FALL!

As I stepped outside each day this week, I instantly smelled the season of fall! This is my FAVORITE time of year. Some could argue that there is no better season than summer, but I love fall and all it has to offer. I really like how you can go outside with just a light jacket, or none at all and jeans and be perfectly equipped. This season is so fun for me!

I love the color orange, the leaves falling from the trees, eating pumpkin pie, drinking pumpkin lattes, and most of all—-getting cozy next to a warm fire. Whether it is in your backyard or at a cottage, fire pits bring family/friends together.

Nights like these are perfect for family/friend gatherings, why not sit around a fire talking about your day, telling stories, and making s’mores!

Fall colors are also some of my favorite schemes to design with. Burnt oranges, deep reds, dark greens and browns are the best combinations while trying to create a warm, inviting space. If you already have these colors in your decor, then you hardly need to decorate for fall/halloween.

Now, I may be excited about Fall, but that doesn’t mean I am looking forward to Winter. Brrrr!

Metal Chairs–Industrial Chic!

I LOVE mixing old furniture w/ new to give a room a more eclectic vibe. I came across these interesting photos using dingy, beat-up metal chairs, paired w/ all sorts of different furnishings to give a unique yet stylish fix to these spaces! You can add these sleek metal chairsto any interior! The metal material plays well against woods, lacquer & upholstery. Adding different kinds of materials to a room is important for a design. Check out these cool spaces!

White after Labor Day

Labor day has come & gone and I still can’t get over the fact that it is SEPTEMBER. Where did June, July & August go? Do you still follow that old rule, “don’t wear white after labor day?” I think it’s silly, some of my BEST articles of clothing are white!

Regardless, I don’t think that rule applies to interiors, do you? White is the color of purity. The Color white stands for kindness, wholeness, and completion. White daisies are a symbol of loyal love. Overall, white has many meanings and it is a fanastic color to wear and use in our interiors. There are no rules when designing a white space, which is one of the best ways to design! No rules means ANYTHING goes…

Put some white in your life when you want to clear the clutter and start a fresh beginning! A white interior is perfect before or after Labor Day. Take a look at how beautiful these spaces look!

Concrete Countertops

Concrete is not only used for driveways, walkways, and flooring surfaces, surprisingly it makes for beautiful countertops! I’ve seen tons of designers make concrete countertops and I think they are so fun! It is such an easy process making them that you can even do it yourself! You choose the size, and you pick the color(any color you desire). Pick up concrete mix from your local hardware store, simply make a mold of the shape you want and pour the concrete in. There are a few more steps, but it is so easy! How about you try creating a custom countertop of your own. If you do, send your pictures in…we would love to see them!

Don’t be spooked by BLACK WALLS!

Good designers are DARING! They aren’t afraid to be bold! Black walls aren’t as scary as you think, they’re actually somewhat chic and make a huge statement. Black walls don’t work in every room/house, these dark walls have to be applied in the right way. Your outcome can make you say WOW if the right furniture and accessories are added to the space. What inspires your room? A common dilemma from just about everyone I encounter is, where do I start? It seems to be the million dollar question… So here it is: AN ANSWER! Every designer is going to share their perspective on how to approach this question, of course that’s what keeps things interesting! But, here’s MY solution.

Pick one single home decor detail. For example: In a bedroom it could be a headboard style or a favorite color that can set the mood in a big way. Or maybe it’s a textile (fabric), or a favorite painting or picture. So basic! That’s your starting point. From here, we move to style—Are you traditional? Contemporary? Either way, once you can pin-point which design style you lean more toward, you can combine that w/ your ”design element” and base your entire room off of it. Check out a few of these pictures for some inspiration…
