Brass & Silver, Oak & Mahogany…Living in Perfect Harmony

Written By: Rachel Waage

Remember the days of being required to pick solely gold bathroom fixtures, only stainless steel cabinet hardware, or “how could I possibly mix light oak with dark mahogany”. Well folks, those days are over…it’s 2011 and you can mix-and-match any wood, metal, or material for that matter!

These days Kitchen Cabinetry can be mixed – Oak wood with Cherry accents. Picture Frames on your wall can beĀ - brass and silver, small and large, matted and UN-matted. Oh! And Don’t forget about individual furniture pieces! They are now being made with different shades of wood within the one piece – this provides ease in decorating because you don’t have to find ONE specific wood. This trend of mixing-and-matching, materials & finishes has spread like a wildfire – people love not having to make crucial decisions! Anything Goes! And who wants a space that is so Matchy-Matchy anyway? Not us!

Mixed kitchen cabinetry with dark Cherry Wood, but also including green and white painted cabinets. The style even varies from piece to piece

This kitchen displays ecclectic style and how to mix-and-match like a pro! Note the cabinet hardware – every inch is different, but it is still cohesive

Frames in Silver, Gold, White, and Wood cover this wall creating a beautiful collage.

Again, mixing picture frames done beautifully – this time the size of the matting was “mixed-up” to create interest.

This dining room set (yes, a little outdated) shows how furniture makers are incorporating different woods within one set of furniture

Again, another eclectic kitchen – note that back left corner; the black and dark cherry cabinetry side by side. LOVE IT!

Share your thoughts on mixing-and matching! Yay! or Nay! We would love to hear it!
